Ajit Pawar’s Aircraft Flew Without Mandatory Satellite Safety System for 28 Days

Initial examination of the aircraft’s registration timeline indicates the 16-year-old Learjet may not have carried India’s GAGAN satellite-based approach guidance system.

Officials registered the Learjet in India on June 2, 2021, narrowly preceding the regulatory mandate requiring satellite-based safety technology.

The crash has raised concerns that missing the deadline by 28 days deprived the aircraft of crucial guidance in poor visibility, despite legal compliance.

NCP chief and Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar died in a plane crash on Wednesday morning while travelling from Mumbai to Baramati. Four others, including the pilots and Pawar’s security personnel, also lost their lives in the accident.

The Karnataka High Court ruled that supplying detention papers in an unfamiliar language violates constitutional rights. As a result, the detenue could not challenge the order effectively. He could read only Kannada, while some documents were in English.
