On Wednesday night, the BAPS Shri Swaminarayan Mandir in Sacramento. California, was vandaliz with anti-Hindu messages. less than ten days after a similar incident occurre at the BAPS temple in New York.
The walls of the Sacramento temple were marke with troubling messages. Including “Hindus Go Back,” raising alarm within the local Hindu community. BAPS Public Affairs shared on X, stating. “Just under ten days after the desecration of the BAPS Mandir in New York. Our Mandir in Sacramento was target last night with anti-Hindu. Hate Hindus go back!’ We stand united against hate and offer prayers for peace.”
The Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office reported that deputies respond to the BAPS Shri Swaminarayan Mandir in Mather. Near Rancho Cordova, where the graffiti was found. They also noted that vandals had cut water lines at the site.
In response to the vandalism, Ami Bera, the representative for Sacramento County in the US House of Representatives, posted on X, stating. “There is no room for religious bigotry and hatred in #SacramentoCounty. I firmly condemn this act of vandalism in our community. We must all unite against intolerance and ensure that everyone, regardless of their faith, feels safe and respected.”

Indian-American lawmaker Rohit Khanna expressed that this kind of hate directed at Hindu Americans
Indian-American lawmaker Rohit Khanna expressed. “This kind of hate directed at Hindu Americans and the vandalism is unacceptable and morally reprehensible. The Department of Justice must investigate these hate crimes, and those responsible should be hel completely accountable under the law.”
Another Indian-American lawmaker, Shri Thanedar, condemned the incident and called for swift action from the federal government. He stated, “The BAPS Hindu temple in Sacramento, CA was vandaliz overnight with anti-Hindu slogans. The DOJ must take immediate action to identify and prosecute those responsible for this hate,” in a post on X.
The Hindu American Foundation, which advocates for human dignity. Mutual respect, and pluralism, expressed gratitude to Rep. Bera for highlighting the hate crime against the Hindu temple. They posted on X, “Thank you @RepBera. This vandalism is an anti-Hindu hate crime aime at a Hindu temple. Featuring messages that conflate Hindus with the Government of India and telling them to ‘go home.’”
The previous incident at the BAPS Swaminarayan Temple in New York occurre on September 17 and was met with condemnation from the Consulate General of India in New York.
Numerous US lawmakers also condemned the incident and urged prompt action against the vandals.
