The US launched fresh strikes on Iranian targets, hitting a military site in Bandar Abbas, a key port city near the Strait of Hormuz. US Central Command said American forces also destroyed four Iranian attack drones that threatened security around the strategic waterway. According to officials, the targeted site was preparing to launch another drone when the strike took place. Iranian media reported explosions in the eastern part of Bandar Abbas shortly after the operation. The attacks marked the second US military action against Iran within three days, raising concerns over regional stability.
The new strikes came during a fragile ceasefire and ongoing negotiations aimed at ending the three-month conflict between the two nations. The war has severely disrupted shipping traffic in the Strait of Hormuz, causing major delays for commercial tanker ships and increasing global oil and gas prices. US officials described the latest operation as defensive in nature and intended to maintain the ceasefire. Earlier strikes this week targeted Iranian missile systems and boats accused of attempting to place mines in the Strait. American military officials said the operations aimed to protect US troops and maritime security in the region.
Iran strongly condemned the strikes, calling them a serious violation of the ceasefire agreement. Iranian authorities warned that they would respond to any hostile actions carried out by the United States. At the same time, Kuwait announced that its air defense systems intercepted hostile missiles and drones, although officials did not provide further information about the threats. The growing military tensions have increased fears of a wider regional conflict involving Gulf nations and international shipping routes. Diplomatic efforts continue, but both sides remain deeply divided over the future of the ceasefire.

The United States also imposed new sanctions on the Persian Gulf Strait Authority, an Iranian organization responsible for collecting fees from ships using the Strait of Hormuz. The US Treasury Department warned that vessels making payments to the authority could face sanctions as well. Around one-fifth of the world’s oil and liquefied natural gas passes through the Strait, making it one of the most important trade routes globally. Iran defended the fees as payments for navigational services and insisted it would continue managing traffic through the waterway. US officials accused Iran of using the Strait to pressure global maritime trade and generate revenue during the conflict.
Meanwhile, Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps claimed it had shot down a US drone and fired at other American aircraft that allegedly entered Iranian airspace. US President Donald Trump said Iran was under pressure and eager to negotiate a deal to end the conflict, though Washington remained dissatisfied with the progress so far. Trump warned that the United States could resume a larger military campaign if negotiations failed. He also encouraged Gulf nations to normalize ties with Israel through the Abraham Accords. Although both countries have hinted at possible progress in peace talks, uncertainty remains over whether a final agreement can be reached.
