US President Donald Trump announced a one-time cash payout for American military personnel, calling it a “warrior dividend.” Trump set the payment at $1,776 to reflect the year America was founded.
He said more than 1.45 million service members will receive the money before Christmas.
The payout will go to active-duty service members in pay grades O-6 and below. Eligible members must have been on active duty as of November 30, 2025. Reserve members on active-duty orders of 31 days or more by that date will also qualify. Trump linked the initiative to America’s founding and the Declaration of Independence in 1776.
In 1776, the 13 colonies formally declared independence from British rule. Congress approved the independence resolution on July 2, 1776. Americans later adopted July 4 as the symbolic birth date of the United States. The country now observes July 4 as Independence Day. Trump said the $1,776 payment honors that legacy and the armed forces who defend it.

The announcement comes as Trump confronts growing public dissatisfaction over economic conditions. Recent polls show that many Americans feel frustrated by rising inflation, which followed the introduction of tariffs that pushed up consumer prices and slowed hiring. During his nationwide address, Trump defended his trade policies, arguing that tariffs have brought in more revenue than expected. He said that revenue from tariffs, along with what he called a recently passed “big, beautiful” bill, made the warrior dividend possible.
Trump also renewed his focus on immigration, saying his administration has strengthened border enforcement and removed criminals from the country. Although he briefly referred to mass deportations, independent analyses show that authorities have deported some people without criminal records as well. Trump further pledged to introduce what he described as the most aggressive housing reform measures in US history, though he offered no details. He also claimed that his immigration policies have made major cities safer. During the address, Trump said more than 1.45 million service members will receive the payment before Christmas and added that officials have already begun processing the checks. He praised the military, saying no group deserves the payout more.
