Business leaders join Trump delegation for China trip

US President Donald Trump is taking several leading American business and technology executives with him on his official visit to China this week. The delegation includes major corporate leaders such as Tim Cook, Elon Musk and Larry Fink. Companies including Meta, Visa, Boeing and Cargill are also sending executives with the delegation. Trump is bringing a total of 17 top executives to Beijing. The visit comes at a crucial time as the United States and China continue to clash over trade and technology issues.

Trump will meet Chinese President Xi Jinping during the visit to discuss economic relations and geopolitical concerns. The leaders are expected to focus on technology restrictions, semiconductor trade and disputes surrounding artificial intelligence development. Top corporate leaders are highlighting the growing importance of business diplomacy between the two countries. Executives from finance, aerospace, biotechnology and social media industries are participating in the summit. Analysts believe the meeting could help Washington and Beijing stabilize strained relations.

The delegation includes Dina Powell McCormick from Meta, Kelly Ortberg from Boeing, Ryan McInerney from Visa and Jane Fraser from Citigroup. Executives from Goldman Sachs, Mastercard and GE Aerospace are also joining the trip. Their participation shows the US administration’s efforts to strengthen economic ties despite political disagreements. American firms will use the visit to discuss market access and investment challenges directly with Chinese officials. Many US companies still rely heavily on China for manufacturing and business growth.

Top CEOs join Trump on China trip amid trade talks

A major surprise during the trip involved Jensen Huang, whose name did not appear on the original delegation list. Officials later spotted Huang boarding Air Force One during a refuelling stop in Alaska. Nvidia said Trump invited Huang to support American economic and technology goals. Semiconductor companies continue to play a central role in the rivalry between Washington and Beijing because both countries are aggressively competing in artificial intelligence and advanced chip manufacturing. Micron Technology CEO Sanjay Mehrotra is also joining the delegation despite earlier Chinese restrictions on some Micron products over national security concerns. The participation of chip industry leaders highlights the strategic importance of technology discussions during the summit.

Trump’s China visit marks the first trip by a US president to the country in nearly ten years. The United States and China previously imposed tariffs exceeding 100% on several products during an intense trade dispute. Although both countries paused many tariffs after Trump met Xi in South Korea, economic uncertainty continues to affect global markets. Trump and Xi are also expected to discuss the ongoing conflict involving Iran and its impact on global oil markets. Trump reportedly wants China to encourage diplomatic talks between Washington and Tehran to reduce regional tensions. China, which imports large quantities of Iranian oil, also wants to prevent further disruptions that could damage global trade and energy markets.
