Sania Mirza has returned to India after spending tense days in Dubai amid rising geopolitical tensions. The 39-year-old lives there with her son and spends most of the year in the city. However, she chose to travel to Hyderabad ahead of Eid as uncertainty in the region continued to grow. The conflict involving Iran, the USA, and Israel created concern among residents. Reports of possible strikes in parts of the UAE also added to the uneasy atmosphere. As a result, many families began to closely monitor the situation and consider precautionary steps.
Speaking to NDTV, Sania Mirza said her decision followed a series of unsettling incidents near her home. She recalled hearing fighter jets flying overhead and seeing interceptions in the sky. These moments made the situation feel closer than before and harder to ignore. While she did not feel directly unsafe, the repeated disturbances created tension in daily life. Over time, this uncertainty began to affect her comfort and sense of normalcy, which influenced her decision to return.

Moreover, Mirza revealed that debris from an intercepted projectile fell close to her residence in Al Barsha. The distance was around 400–500 metres, which made the situation feel very real. Such incidents showed how close the developments were to residential areas. This increased her concern about staying in the area during such conditions.
She added that Dubai still feels like a second home to her and she has always felt comfortable there. However, the recent events made her rethink her immediate plans. “I came last week. A few incidents occurred, so I felt it was better to return,” she said. She also clarified that her decision was based on caution rather than fear, as she wanted to avoid unnecessary risk.

Concern for Her Son and Eid Return
Additionally, Mirza said her young son played an important role in her decision to return. He started asking questions after hearing the jets and noticing unusual activity. This made the situation harder to handle as a parent. She felt it was better to bring him to a calmer and more familiar place where he could feel at ease.
At the same time, she shared that visiting Hyderabad during Ramzan is a long-standing and meaningful tradition for her family. She enjoys spending the final days of the holy month with loved ones and being part of the festive atmosphere. Her son also loves visiting his grandparents, where he feels relaxed and happy. The trip, therefore, brought comfort, stability, and a sense of normalcy during a tense period.
