According to ANI, External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar expressed on Tuesday that India is “deeply” concerned about the potential for a regional conflict in West Asia, emphasizing that “any nation’s response” must adhere to international humanitarian law.

S Jaishankar Addresses on West Asia Crisis
Speaking at the Carnegie Endowment Centre for International Peace in the U.S., S Jaishankar discussed the emerging volatile situation in West Asia. He reaffirmed India’s stance, labeling the October 7 attack on Israel by Hamas militants as a “terrorist attack,” and identified it as the root cause of the ongoing tensions in the region.

Calls for Humanitarian Consideration in Gaza
S Jaishankar acknowledged Israel’s need to respond but emphasized that any country’s actions must respect international humanitarian law. He stressed the importance of minimizing harm to civilian populations and urged for a coordinated international humanitarian effort in Gaza.

EAM Expresses Broader Concerns About Conflicts in West Asia
The External Affairs Minister emphasized that India’s concerns extend beyond the current tensions involving Israel, Hamas, Lebanon, and Iran. “It’s not just about what happened in Lebanon; I also mentioned the Houthis and the Red Sea, as well as the ongoing dynamics between Iran and Israel. While many countries share this concern, it’s essential to recognize the broader spectrum of conflicts in the region,” Jaishankar stated. The minister stated that India recognizes the significance of maintaining communication among all parties during “challenging times.” Jaishankar remarked, “If there are messages to convey and share, those represent valuable contributions that we can and do make.”
