US Secretary of Defence Lloyd Austin emphasised American support for Ukraine and cautioned that if Vladimir Putin achieves his objectives in this conflict, he will likely pursue further aggressive actions beyond Ukraine’s borders.

In the 20th meeting of the Ukraine Defence Contact Group, Secretary of Defence Lloyd Austin asserted that Ukraine remains steadfast in confronting the Russian invasion, and reiterated the unwavering support of the United States in this regard, as per the statement released by the US Department of Defence (DOD).

Held at Ramstein Air Base in Germany, the meeting commended the collective efforts of “countries of conscience” collaborating to assist Ukraine in its struggle.

Austin and Air Force General CQ Brown, Jr., the chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, convened with delegates from over 50 nations and organisations to coordinate assistance, training, and capabilities for Ukraine.

According to the DOD, Austin remarked, “For over two years, Ukraine’s military has demonstrated resilience and proficiency in confronting Putin’s aggression.”

The US Secretary of Defence highlighted that Russia has expended $211 billion and estimates the total cost of the war for Moscow to be $1.3 trillion.

“Following the invasion, Russia has squandered up to $211 billion on outfitting, deploying, and sustaining its unnecessary conflict with its neighbouring country,” Austin stated. “Putin’s deliberate choice of war will result in Russia forfeiting $1.3 trillion in anticipated economic progress through 2026.”

He reiterated that Ukraine has been courageously resisting the “Kremlin’s aggressors” and affirmed that the Ukrainian people are determined not to let Putin succeed.”If Putin achieves his goals in Ukraine, his ambitions won’t end there,” Austin remarked. “Our allies and partners are present because they grasp the gravity of the situation.”

“Furthermore, Ukraine’s allies persist in devising inventive strategies to offer vital support, making fresh pledges to provide urgently required capabilities—particularly in air defence, armoured vehicles, and artillery ammunition.”
