Prime Minister Narendra Modi began a two-nation visit to Uzbekistan and Kyrgyzstan on Saturday to strengthen India’s strategic partnerships in Central Asia. His visit focuses on expanding cooperation, improving regional connectivity and promoting peace and stability. Modi will first visit Tashkent for a two-day bilateral trip at the invitation of Uzbekistan President Shavkat Mirziyoyev. He will then travel to Bishkek to attend the 26th Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) Summit. The Prime Minister expressed confidence that the visit will deepen India’s engagement with the Central Asian region.
PM Modi To Hold Bilateral Talks In Uzbekistan
During his visit to Tashkent, PM Modi will hold discussions with President Mirziyoyev on key areas of cooperation. The leaders will focus on trade, investment, digital connectivity, defence and energy. Modi said the India-Uzbekistan Strategic Partnership has made significant progress in recent years. He also aims to advance the shared development visions of Viksit Bharat and Yangi Uzbekistan. The visit will further strengthen diplomatic, economic and strategic ties between the two countries.
PM Modi will also visit the Shastri Memorial and the Mahatma Gandhi Centre at the Tashkent State University of Oriental Studies. He described these visits as a tribute to the strong cultural and people-to-people connections between India and Uzbekistan. This will be Modi’s fourth visit to Uzbekistan after earlier visits in 2015, 2016 and 2022. Over the years, New Delhi and Tashkent have steadily expanded their bilateral and multilateral cooperation. The two countries continue to work together across several strategic and economic sectors.

PM Modi Highlights Security And Stability At SCO Summit
After completing his Uzbekistan visit, PM Modi will travel to Bishkek at the invitation of Kyrgyzstan President Sadyr Japarov. He will attend the 26th SCO Summit, which marks 25 years of the organisation. Modi said India has played an active and constructive role in the SCO since becoming a full member in 2017. He will promote India’s vision for the region based on security, connectivity and opportunity. He will also meet President Japarov and other leaders during the summit.
The Prime Minister stressed the need to build a region free from terrorism, separatism and extremism. He said these threats continue to affect peace and stability across the region and beyond. Modi will also attend the opening ceremony of the 6th World Nomad Games during his visit. He expressed confidence that the two-nation tour will strengthen India’s partnerships and deepen its civilisational links with Central Asia. The visit aims to advance the shared goals of peace, stability and prosperity.
