Prime Minister Narendra Modi land in the United States early Thursday (Indian time) and was warmly. Welcomed by members of the Indian-American community upon his arrival at Blair House, the President’s Guest House.
Despite freezing temperatures and rain, members of the community gathered at Blair House to welcome Prime Minister Modi with chants of ‘Bharat Mata ki Jai,’ ‘Vande Mataram,’ and ‘Modi Modi,’ while waving Indian and American flags.
PM Modi Among First Foreign Leaders Hosted by President Trump
Prime Minister Modi is the fourth foreign leader to be host by US President Donald Trump. In the weeks following his inauguration last month. Upon arriving in the US, PM Modi shared a post on X, saying, “A warm reception in the winter chill! Despite the cold weather, the Indian diaspora in Washington, DC, has given me a very special welcome. My heartfelt gratitude to them.”
During his two-day visit to the US, PM Modi and Trump will hold high-stakes talks and bilateral discussions in the White House. They both are expecte to meet at 2.35 am (IST) and will address a press briefing at 3.40 am (IST).

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will hold bilateral discussions and high-stakes talks with President Donald Trump in the face of concerns in New Delhi over Washington’s new ‘America First’ trade agenda as well as its policy on immigration.
With Trump’s tariff policy sending shockwaves across the world. PM Modi’s key priority is expecte to be to pre-empt any punitive trade action by Washington against India. According to news agency PTI, people closely tracking the India-US ties said there is a possibility of both sides exploring the option of looking at a trade pact to avoid high tariffs and expand the overall trade basket. It is learnt that New Delhi may consider slashing tariffs in at least a dozen sectors provide some reciprocity by the White House. Modi and Trump are unlikely to discuss specifics on tariffs but the two leaders may deliberate on a broader picture.
During their meeting, PM Modi and Trump are likely to broadly focus on ramping up India-US. Cooperation in sectors like trade, investment, energy, defence, technology and immigration.
Apart from some possible sector-specific outcomes, it will be interesting to see the optics and what kind of broader signal the meeting between Modi and Trump, known for their bonhomie, produces with sensitive issues like immigration and tariff expected to be the focus of the talks.
PM Modi is also expecte to meet Elon Musk during his visit to the United States this week. With discussions likely to include Starlink’s long-delayed entry into the Indian market, Reuters reported, citing sources familiar with the plans.
