Noida International Airport to Be Named After PM Narendra Modi, Says CM Yogi Adityanath

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has announced that the Noida International Airport in Jewar will be renamed Narendra Modi International Airport. The state Cabinet approved the proposal during a meeting on Friday, October 9. The decision recognises Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s 25 years of public service as the head of government. The announcement highlights his contribution to India’s development and infrastructure growth.

UP Cabinet Approves Airport Renaming Proposal

Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath said the Cabinet expressed gratitude to PM Modi for bringing the airport project to Uttar Pradesh. He praised the Prime Minister’s leadership and said it had strengthened India’s global identity. Yogi also highlighted the state’s progress in infrastructure, governance and investment. The Cabinet described the decision as a mark of appreciation for Modi’s continued service.

The Chief Minister also highlighted the Prime Minister’s contribution to promoting Uttar Pradesh’s traditional industries and local products. Initiatives such as ‘One District, One Product’ have helped local crafts gain wider recognition. Yogi said these efforts have strengthened the identity of the state’s artisans and traditional businesses. He also praised the Centre and state government’s coordination in driving development.

Noida Airport Begins Commercial Flight Operations

The Noida International Airport, also known as Jewar Airport, received its aerodrome licence before its inauguration in March 2026, according to the report. Commercial flight operations reportedly began on June 15, with an IndiGo flight from Lucknow arriving first. The airport aims to improve connectivity for passengers travelling to and from the National Capital Region. Its development also supports regional economic growth.

The airport currently has one runway and one passenger terminal, with an annual capacity of 12 million passengers. Officials expect the capacity to increase to 30 million passengers after the second phase becomes operational. The project aims to strengthen air connectivity and support growing passenger demand in the region. The proposed renaming will give the airport a new identity honouring the Prime Minister.
