Malibu Quake Shakes Nearby Cities

A 3.9 magnitude earthquake struck near Malibu, California, on Sunday night, sending tremors across Los Angeles, Thousand Oaks, Simi Valley, Ventura, Agoura Hills, and Westlake Village. According to the United States Geological Survey (USGS), the quake occurred 10 kilometers northwest of Malibu at 11:17 p.m. with a depth of 14 kilometers. There were no immediate reports of damage.

Volcano Discovery, a site that tracks earthquakes, received multiple reports of shaking from residents in the affected areas. A Brea resident described feeling a gentle vibration while reading, while a Camarillo resident noted an increase in intensity for a brief moment, recalling the fear of the 1989 Loma Prieta earthquake.

Rising Concerns Over Frequent Earthquakes in Southern California

Social media users also reacted to the earthquake. One person expressed relief that it lasted only a few seconds, while another pleaded with Mother Nature to give Los Angeles a break. A third resident voiced concern about the frequency of earthquakes, noting that LA had experienced one every Sunday for the past three weeks.

This earthquake follows a 4.1 magnitude quake that struck Westlake Village near Malibu on March 9. That tremor, also reported by the USGS, was felt across Los Angeles, Thousand Oaks, Ventura County, Simi Valley, and Long Beach. It occurred at approximately 4 p.m. at a depth of 11.7 kilometers.

With a series of earthquakes rattling the region, many residents are becoming increasingly worried about the potential for a larger, more destructive seismic event. The frequency of these quakes has raised concerns among locals. The most recent 3.9 magnitude tremor struck near Malibu, while a 4.1 magnitude quake hit Westlake Village earlier this month. Some fear that these could be precursors to a stronger earthquake. While no damage has been reported so far, experts continue to monitor seismic activity in Southern California. Authorities are urging residents to stay prepared for any future developments.
