Delhi’s Rashtrapati Bhavan flew the national flag at half-mast on Tuesday as India observed a one-day state mourning for the death of Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi, his Foreign Minister Hossein Amirabdollahian, and other officials in a helicopter crash.

Tragic Loss: India’s Condolences for Iranian Leaders After Helicopter Crash
On Monday, the Union Home Minister announced that India would observe a one-day state mourning for Raisi’s death. During this period, no official entertainment took place. In a statement, the External Affairs Ministry said, “Prime Minister of India Shri Narendra Modi, and External Affairs Minister Dr. S Jaishankar expressed condolences on the demise of HE Dr. Seyyed Ebrahim Raisi and HE Hossein Amir-Abdollahian. They noted the important role the two leaders played in strengthening India-Iran relations.”
Raisi, Amirabdollahian, and others were returning to Iran after visiting the Azerbaijan border, where they inaugurated a dam project. Their helicopter crashed into the mountainous region in Jolfa, northwest Iran. Rescue teams searched for hours amid rain and fog and found no survivors. Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed his sorrow, stating he felt “saddened and shocked” by their tragic demise and that India stands with Iran “in this time of sorrow.”
