Indian Data Scientist Fired for Exposing Canadian ‘Free Food’ Tactic

A viral video featuring Mehul Prajapati, an individual of Indian descent, is making rounds on the internet, demonstrating his strategy for accessing complimentary meals in Canada. In the Instagram-shared video, Mehul details his approach to saving money on food and groceries each month. He points out a distinct feature of Canadian universities and colleges – the existence of student-focused food banks operated by churches or non-profit organizations. Mehul explains that these food banks offer a diverse range of items. In the video, he showcases numerous bags of groceries filled with fresh produce, vegetables, and various canned goods, highlighting that individuals can take as much as they need.

However, the post was reshared on X (formerly Twitter) revealing that Mehul is a data scientist working at TD Bank in Canada. The post was shared by @Slatzism with the caption read, “this guy has a job as a bank data scientist for @TD_Canada, a position that averages $98,000 per year, and proudly uploaded this video showing how much “free food” he gets from charity food banks. you don’t hate them enough.”

Following this post, Mehul lost his job as shared by @Slatzism in an update post. @Slatzism posted a screenshot of an email purportedly from the customer care of TD Bank. The text from the screenshot read, “Thank you for bringing the video to our attention. The alleged actions and messages captured in the video do not align with our TD values or culture of care. I can confirm that the individual named in the video no longer works at TD.”
