Later the same night, Mr. Modi spoke with Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the United Arab Emirates, condemning the attacks on the Gulf nation and affirming that India stands in solidarity with the UAE during this challenging period.
Meanwhile, tensions in the region intensified following an Iranian missile strike on the central Israeli city of Beit Shemesh on Sunday, which left at least nine people dead and 11 others missing, according to police. It was described as the deadliest attack on Israel since the outbreak of the conflict.
The escalation followed a series of strikes launched on Saturday (February 28, 2026) by the United States and Israel targeting Iran. The attacks reportedly killed Iran’s Supreme Leader, Ali Khamenei, prompting swift retaliatory action from Tehran that continued into Sunday, further heightening instability across the region.
