Donald Trump and Narendra Modi announced a long-awaited India-United States trade deal last week together. Trump claimed the agreement required New Delhi to halt purchases of Russian oil immediately fully. He also lifted a 25 percent tariff previously imposed over India’s Russian energy imports issues.
These announcements intensified scrutiny over India’s future energy sourcing commitments under the deal framework today.

Despite claims, observers continue asking whether India has already stopped buying Russian oil imports entirely. On February first, Trump said he spoke with Modi and finalized the trade agreement recently.
He stated the United States would reduce India’s tariffs from twenty-five percent to eighteen percent.
Trump portrayed the tariff cut as part of broader concessions within the bilateral deal framework.
These comments further fueled speculation regarding linked energy commitments and purchasing shifts worldwide right now.

Trump wrote on Truth Social that Modi agreed to stop buying Russian oil supplies completely.
He added India would buy substantially more energy from the United States and Venezuela markets.
Trump said Modi pledged to BUY AMERICAN across energy, technology, agriculture, and coal sectors massively. He referenced commitments exceeding five hundred billion dollars to American industries and suppliers overall combined.
