US Plane with 100+ Deported Indians Arrives in Amritsar

A U.S. military aircraft carrying over 100 deported Indian immigrants landed at Amritsar Shri Guru Ramdas Ji International Airport on Wednesday afternoon, after the initial morning landing was delayed.

The flight’s arrival drew a large crowd, prompting increased security at the airport. Among the deported individuals are 25 women, 12 minors, and 79 men, with 11 crew members and 45 U.S. officials on board.

The deportees come from Amritsar Punjab, Haryana, Gujarat, Uttar Pradesh, and Maharashtra, with 33 from Gujarat and 30 from Punjab.

To manage the situation,Amritsar Punjab Police enhanced security at the airport, and the state government arranged minibuses to transport the deportee to their respective destinations.

Punjab’s Director General of Police (DGP) Gaurav Yadav mentioned that the state government would welcome the deportees warmly and offer assistance at airport counters.

He assured that the state police would verify their criminal backgrounds in coordination with the central government. Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann also assured full support to the returnees.

Concerns Over Illegal Immigration and Accountability Raised by Experts in Amritsar

Nitin Chawla, an executive member of the Association of Consultants for Overseas Studies (ACOS), Punjab, emphasized the need for self-reflection on illegal immigration.

Stating that the government should welcome returning deportees, Nitin Chawla emphasized that authorities must hold those responsible for sending them illegally accountable.

He also suggested taking action against the individuals and agents who facilitate illegal immigration.

Vinay Kumar Hari echoed the sentiment and called for an inquiry into the illegal immigration network, highlighting that unlicensed travel agents involved in these illegal routes often change contact details.

Trump’s Deportation Efforts and Punjab’s Preparations for Deported Migrants

US President Donald Trump, who campaigned on a promise to crack down on illegal immigration, has aggressively carried out deportations since taking office. Illegal immigrants are being deported in large numbers, often on military flights.

The US rarely uses military planes for deportations, and it comes at a high cost. Colombia refused to allow a military flight with deportees to land, and President Gustavo Petro stated that he would only accept civilian planes.

Punjab Police have increased security at the airport. In a statement to the media on Tuesday, Punjab DGP Gaurav Yadav mentioned.

The Chief Minister chaired a meeting today, where we decided that the Punjab government will welcome the deportees in a friendly manner.

We will establish help counters at the airport and remain in constant contact with the central government.
