His departure follows Musk’s first criticism of Trump. Musk said Trump’s spending bill raises deficit. It also undermines DOGE’s work. “A bill can be big or beautiful,” Musk stated. “But not both, my personal opinion.”

Musk was Trump’s largest 2024 donor. He joined pre-poll outings. He remained firmly by Trump’s side. Trump praised Musk in his victory speech. He beamed, “a star is born.”
DOGE started work at a feverish pace. Musk sought “high-IQ small-government revolutionaries”. They would cut costs, work 80+ hours. Tens of thousands lost government jobs. Several departments were downsized or shut. The Tesla chief clashed with senior officials.
By late April, Musk started pulling back. He said DOGE became a “whipping boy” for dissatisfaction. He admitted not reaching all goals. A judge ruled Musk faces a lawsuit. It’s for illegal power as DOGE head. DOGE also faces cases blocking agency access. These records hold Americans’ private data.

His focus shifted to businesses. Tesla dealerships faced arson attacks. Its share prices dropped. SpaceX suffered mission failures. Starship exploded Wednesday on its ninth flight. A two-hour X outage on Saturday occurred. Musk posted, “Major operational improvements needed.”
