Dhaka: Bangladesh Army Chief General Waker-Uz-Zaman has expressed deep concern over the country’s growing anarchy and deteriorating law and order, attributing it to political turmoil and a worsening sociopolitical crisis. He stated that citizens are increasingly engaged in vilifying each other.
At an armed forces event, Gen Zaman remarked, “The anarchy we see is self-created.” He also highlighted the inefficiency of the police force, noting that officers at all levels are fearful as many of their colleagues face legal cases or imprisonment.

Rising Anarchy Threatens Bangladesh’s Stability
General Waker-Uz-Zaman warned that the collapse of law and order has increased the armed forces’ responsibility. He stressed the urgent need for national unity and discipline, cautioning that internal conflicts endanger Bangladesh’s sovereignty.
“If you keep fighting among yourselves, the country’s independence is at risk,” he said, urging citizens to move beyond divisions. He also expressed frustration, saying, “For the past seven to eight months, I have had enough.”
Without naming any political groups, he added that ongoing accusations among stakeholders create opportunities for miscreants to act without fear.
