ATF Rise Curbed : But Premium fuel & LPG Prices Surge

The Union Government has capped the rise in aviation turbine fuel (ATF) prices for domestic airlines to limit the impact on air travel. At the same time, state-run oil marketing companies increased the prices of commercial LPG and premium fuels. Officials confirmed that domestic LPG cylinder rates and regular petrol and diesel prices remain unchanged. The move aims to balance consumer costs and industry pressures.

The government restricted the ATF price hike to 25 percent for domestic carriers. Meanwhile, oil companies raised the price of a 19-kg commercial LPG cylinder by ₹195.50. In Delhi, the revised rate now stands at ₹2,078.50 per cylinder. Authorities also increased premium petrol and diesel prices, reflecting changes in global fuel costs.

Domestic flyers get relief, but commercial fuel segments turn costlier

The Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas explained that ATF prices follow international benchmarks and undergo monthly revisions. Officials noted that global prices have surged sharply due to rising tensions in West Asia. The closure of key supply routes has disrupted energy markets. These factors have driven fuel costs significantly higher in recent days.

To prevent a steep rise in airfares, the government implemented only a partial increase in jet fuel prices. Public sector oil companies coordinated with the civil aviation ministry to manage the situation. Authorities decided to pass on only a limited portion of the cost increase to domestic airlines. However, international flights will bear the full impact of higher ATF prices.

Rising fuel costs continue to strain airline operations as companies adjust to longer routes and higher consumption. Fuel accounts for nearly 40 percent of airline expenses, increasing financial pressure. ATF prices have crossed ₹2 lakh per kilolitre for the first time, marking a record high. Officials said the move aims to control inflation while ensuring stability in the aviation sector.
