Congress leader Sonia Gandhi has been admitted to Sir Ganga Ram Hospital in New Delhi, according to multiple reports on Tuesday. As per available information, she was taken to the hospital on Monday evening after experiencing respiratory discomfort.
Meanwhile, news agency ANI reported that Sonia Gandhi has been administered antibiotics along with other supportive medications. At present, her condition is stable, and she is responding well to the treatment, the hospital said in its statement.
At the same time, a hospital official told PTI that the admission was routine in nature. According to the official, she has been kept under the observation of a chest physician as a precautionary step.
Chronic cough and regular medical monitoring
In addition, the hospital official explained that Sonia Gandhi has been dealing with chronic cough for a long time. Therefore, she regularly visits the hospital for medical check-ups. Notably, the senior Congress leader turned 79 last month.
As a result, doctors are closely monitoring her health to ensure there are no complications. Consequently, the current admission is not being viewed as an emergency situation.

Doctors explain condition and discharge timeline
Meanwhile, Ajay Swaroop, Chairman of Sir Ganga Ram Hospital, shared further details about her health. He stated that after a thorough medical examination, doctors found a mild aggravation of her bronchial asthma. According to him, the condition was triggered by cold weather and poor air quality in Delhi.
He further said that Sonia Gandhi was experiencing respiratory discomfort due to these combined factors. Therefore, doctors decided to admit her for observation and further medical management as a precautionary measure. However, he confirmed that her condition remains absolutely stable.
Additionally, Swaroop noted that she is responding positively to antibiotics and other supportive treatment. As things stand, the decision regarding her discharge will depend on her clinical progress. Based on current assessment, she is likely to be discharged within a day or two.
