The Chhindwara police SIT arrested K. Maheshwari, production manager and quality control in-charge of Sreesan Pharma , from Kancheepuram, Tamil Nadu. She cleared the toxic cough syrup batch without proper testing, causing the Death of 23 children. The company director stated that she was responsible for ensuring the quality of each batch.
The SIT reached Chennai on Monday along with Ranganathan and has been investigating for the past three days. However, the investigation faced setbacks after the Enforcement Directorate (ED) conducted a raid at his premises. Officials revealed that the company was operating in poor conditions within a 2,000 sq ft area, lacking proper systems for quality control and testing as required by regulations. During the raid, officials seized several documents, including the formulation used to manufacture the cough syrup.
Multiple Arrests in MP Cough Syrup Death Case
At least 22 children in Madhya Pradesh died from suspected kidney failure after consuming contaminated cough syrup. Police arrested a wholesaler and Pharma for not reporting Coldrif syrup stock. Police have filed a case against a pediatrician and the manufacturer under drug adulteration and culpable homicide charges. So far, they have arrested five people. The tragedy has sparked nationwide outrage and demands for stricter drug safety regulations. Investigations are ongoing to hold all responsible parties accountable.
