Pahalgam Attack Victims Treated at Dispensary, Hospital 40 km Away

As wounded tourists were airlifted from Pahalgam’s Baisaran meadow, locals argued that a nearby hospital could have saved lives. Injured victims were first taken to a small dispensary unequipped for gunshot wounds; the nearest hospital lay 40 kilometres away.

Locals stated that proper hospital care could have potentially saved at least seven to eight lives from the tragic Pahalgam attack. The small dispensary, which is not equipped for serious injuries, was overwhelmed by the number of casualties. Staff worked tirelessly as the injured were rushed in by taxis, their wounds hastily covered with towels and bedsheets. Despite their efforts, after receiving initial treatment, the victims had to be transported to Anantnag hospital, located an hour away. This critical delay, with a high risk of fatal blood loss, reduced the chances of survival for many victims.

No functional hospital in the area

If a functional hospital and blood bank existed, many locals would have donated blood to save lives. An under-construction clinic stands just feet away from the dispensary but remains incomplete after ten years.

“We urge the Lieutenant Governor to ensure its completion within 15–20 days,” a Pahalgam resident said.
