Ranchi: JLKM leader Devendra Mahto has sought permission to leave Sadar Hospital and return to his protest site. He sent a letter to the Ranchi civil surgeon on Wednesday night. Mahto wants to resume his hunger strike at Jaipal Singh Munda Stadium. He has protested for 11 days over alleged irregularities in recruitment exams. His demand has gained support from several protesting students in the state.
Mahto joined agitating students during their march toward the Jharkhand Assembly on Monday. The protest focused on alleged problems in recruitment examinations. However, his health worsened during the demonstration. Authorities then shifted him to Sadar Hospital in Ranchi for medical treatment. Doctors have monitored his condition since his admission.

JLKM leader Devendra Mahto has spent 11 days on hunger strike over alleged Jharkhad
Despite medical treatment, Mahto has maintained his demand to continue the protest. He has now asked the civil surgeon to allow him to leave the hospital. He wants to return to the protest venue and continue his hunger strike. Meanwhile, officials have not indicated whether they will approve his request. His health remains a major concern amid the ongoing agitation.
The Jharkhand Loktantrik Krantikari Morcha leader has linked his protest to students’ recruitment concerns. Students have raised questions about the conduct and fairness of several recruitment examinations. They have also demanded action over alleged irregularities. Therefore, Mahto’s hunger strike has become part of the wider student movement. The protest has drawn attention to recruitment issues across Jharkhand.
Mahto’s request now puts his health and the students’ demands at the centre of the dispute. Medical officials must assess whether he can safely leave the hospital. At the same time, protesters want the government to address their concerns. The administration faces pressure to respond to the allegations and student demands. Further developments will depend on Mahto’s health and the authorities’ decision.
