Lifestyle coach Luke Coutinho shares essential rules for better digestion:
- Eat slowly and chew properly
“Maintain a consistent meal schedule. Even if you’re fasting or following intermittent fasting, try to keep your eating and fasting windows at the same time daily. This helps align your body with the circadian rhythm,” he advised.
FYI: The circadian rhythm is the body’s internal clock that regulates physical, mental, and behavioral patterns over a 24-hour cycle.

- Avoid eating when stressed
Luke advises against eating when you’re stressed, guilty, or angry. “Working lunches under stress? A big no. Your mind should be calm, and your breathing slow before eating. This ensures you’re in the parasympathetic nervous system state, which supports digestion, rest, and regeneration. Take a moment to relax, regulate your breath, and then eat.” - Maintain gaps between meals
He also stresses the importance of meal timing. “Late-night meals disrupt digestion, blood sugar levels, and acid balance. Try to have your meals earlier to support better digestion.” - Use supplements mindfully
Luke cautions against relying too much on supplements. “Taking digestive powders and supplements may help, but only when used correctly and in moderation.” - Prioritize whole foods
He emphasizes the importance of natural eating. “For optimal health, consume whole and real foods while minimizing junk and ultra-processed foods.”
