Netflix concluded 2024 with its highest quarterly subscriber growth to date, a result of several key factors. The return of the hit series ‘Squid Game’ played a significant role, along with the platform’s introduction of its first major live sporting events. Additionally, the anticipation surrounding upcoming seasons of beloved fan favorites helped drive this impressive surge in subscribers.
On Tuesday, Netflix announced that it had gained nearly 19 million subscribers during the holiday period, pushing its total global subscriber count to over 300 million. This marks a significant increase, surpassing the company’s previous record of 15 million new subscribers in the first quarter of 2020, a surge largely driven by the onset of the coronavirus pandemic.

Here are the shows Netflix’s attributed to its record-breaking quarter
According to a shareholder letter, Netflix has credited a mix of programming for its successful quarter, including the hit movie Carry-On and the second season of Squid Game, its most popular series ever.
Although the company said no program accounted for a majority of its additions, the boxing match between Jake Paul and Mike Tyson delivered a record number of sign-ups for one day, according to the research firm Antenna.
The match even overshadowed Netflix’s first National Football League (NFL) games. The second of those games featured a halftime performance by Beyoncé.
