Ramayana: The Legend of Prince Rama’s Release Delayed in India for Wider Audience

On Friday, distributors announced that the release of the 1993 Japanese-Indian anime film Ramayana: The Legend of Prince Rama has been postponed in India.

The animated film was scheduled to hit theaters on October 18 with new Hindi, Tamil, and Telugu dubs, along with the original English version in 4K format.

Geek Pictures India, partnering with AA Films and Excel Entertainment, stated that the rescheduling aims to increase the film’s accessibility in more theaters.

“Geek Pictures sincerely thanks the people of India for their immense love and support for Ramayana: The Legend of Prince Rama.”

The company announced on Instagram, “Due to fans’ enthusiasm, we’ve postponed the release from October 18 to a later date to reach more audiences.”

Ramayana: The Legend of Prince Rama, directed by Yugo Sako and others, features Arun Govil as Ram and Namrata Sawhney as Sita.

Geek Pictures India described Ramayana: The Legend of Prince Rama as a timeless tale celebrating relationships, good over evil, harmony with nature, and friendship.

The distributor stated, “We are proud to bring this Japanese cultural artifact to its spiritual home and will announce a new release date for broader accessibility soon.”

Ramayana: The Legend of Prince Rama was shown at the 24th IFFI in 1993 but never released in theaters. It gained popularity in India during TV re-runs in the early 2000s.
