Hollywood Prepares for Oscar Nomination Reveal

Awards Season Favourites and Surprises

Hollywood is preparing to announce this year’s Oscar nominations, and One Battle After Another, starring Leonardo DiCaprio, is set to lead the shortlist. Films such as Marty Supreme, Frankenstein, Sentimental Value, Bugonia and The Secret Agent are also expected to perform strongly. Major blockbusters have made less impact this year, with sequels like Wicked: For Good and Avatar: Fire and Ash likely to secure fewer nominations than their earlier installments. British talent may see limited recognition, with Wunmi Mosaku standing out as one of the few UK actors with a strong chance, while Irish stars Jessie Buckley and Paul Mescal are widely expected to gain nominations for Hamnet.

New Faces, Comebacks and Changes at the Oscars

The acting categories bring together established stars and potential first-time nominees, including Adam Sandler, Jacob Elordi and Elle Fanning, while veterans such as Amy Madigan and Kate Hudson could achieve long-awaited Oscar comebacks. The Academy has also introduced a new category for best casting, underlining the importance of ensemble performances, and plans to add more categories in future ceremonies. In another major change, Academy voters must now confirm that they have watched the nominated films before casting their votes. The Academy will announce the nominations later today across its official platforms and on BBC News, ahead of the awards ceremony hosted by Conan O’Brien on 15 March.
