Alleged ₹35 Crore Plot to Topple Vijay Government Under Probe

Questions have emerged over an alleged attempt to destabilise the Vijay-led TVK government in Tamil Nadu, barely two months after it assumed office. According to sources, the state intelligence department claims it has uncovered a conspiracy aimed at bringing down the government by securing the simultaneous resignation of 15 TVK MLAs. The alleged plan came to light after a complaint from a ruling party legislator, prompting authorities to launch an investigation. Police initially arrested an employee of a consultancy firm before tracing alleged links to DMK MLA Senthil Balaji during the probe.

The investigation began after Uthangarai TVK MLA N. Elaiyaraja approached Chennai Police with a formal complaint. He alleged that an individual associated with consultancy firm IPDS offered him ₹35 crore in exchange for supporting a no-confidence motion against Tamil Nadu Assembly Speaker JCD Prabhakar, who belongs to the TVK. According to the complaint, the legislator also claimed he was threatened and warned against revealing the alleged offer to anyone. Based on these allegations, police initiated an inquiry that led to the first arrest in Chennai.

Tamil Nadu Intelligence Claims to Foil Alleged Bid to Topple Vijay Government

Reacting to the developments, Tamil Nadu Minister CT Nirmal Kumar strongly criticised the DMK and demanded strict legal action against everyone allegedly involved in the case. He claimed that people associated with Senthil Balaji and members of what he described as the “Karur Gang” played a direct role in the alleged conspiracy. The minister further accused the DMK of working with AIADMK leader Edappadi K. Palaniswami to destabilise the Vijay-led administration through political manoeuvring. Kumar alleged that several TVK MLAs had been approached with monetary offers ranging from ₹10 crore to ₹50 crore to switch loyalties.

The DMK rejected the allegations and accused the ruling TVK of attempting to shape public opinion by selectively revealing details of an ongoing investigation. Party spokesperson A. Saravanan said the TVK was creating a political narrative instead of presenting concrete evidence. He challenged the government to arrest Senthil Balaji if it possessed sufficient proof linking him to the alleged conspiracy. The opposition maintained that the claims lacked factual backing and argued that the investigation should proceed independently without political interference.

DMK Rejects Charges, Calls TVK’s Claims a Political Narrative

The latest controversy comes against the backdrop of a long-standing political rivalry between Chief Minister Vijay and former DMK minister Senthil Balaji. Their relationship has remained strained since a stampede at Vijay’s election rally in Karur, after which Vijay accused Balaji of orchestrating the incident to damage his political image. Balaji denied those allegations at the time. The current investigation has once again brought both leaders into political confrontation as allegations and counter-allegations continue to dominate the public debate.
