Shyam Rangeela’s nomination papers rejected from Varanasi constituency

Shyam Rangeela, who gained popularity for his impersonations of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, recently announced that his nomination papers for contesting the Lok Sabha elections from Varanasi constituency against PM Modi were rejected.

Rangeela, a 29-year-old from Rajasthan, had filed his nomination as an Independent candidate. Expressing his disappointment, he stated that his nomination papers were submitted after 3 pm on the last day of filing nominations, and he was not informed about the requirement to take an oath.

He described himself as a first-time candidate who was unaware of the procedure. Rangeela believes that the rejection of his nomination is an indication that the authorities do not want him to contest from Varanasi.

Shyam Rangeela shared a video message on X

In a video message on X, Rangeela accused the Election Commission of turning the elections in Varanasi into a farce. He expressed frustration over the rejection of his nomination, questioning why his papers were accepted initially if they were to be rejected later.

Rangeela claimed that all necessary documents were submitted, but the District Magistrate informed him of issues with his paperwork, including failure to take an oath. He noted that he was called in alone without his lawyers being allowed, and the authorities did not instruct him to take an oath during the process.

Additionally, Rangeela mentioned the timing discrepancy in the submission of his form, stating that although he submitted it before the deadline, the officials claimed it was late.

He criticised the treatment he received during his nomination process, mentioning incidents of harassment, including his friend being assaulted. Despite the challenges, Rangeela asserted his determination not to succumb to emotional pressure like some political figures and vowed to continue his efforts.
