Raghav Chadha Listed as ‘Shifted’ in Punjab Voter Roll, BJP Alleges Vendetta; AAP Responds

Raghav Chadha’s name has been marked as “shifted” in Punjab’s draft electoral roll, triggering a political dispute between him and the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP). Chadha, who now represents the BJP in the Rajya Sabha, questioned the change in his voter status. He claimed that his voter ID remains registered in Mohali, Punjab. Chadha accused the AAP government of targeting him through political vendetta.

Raghav Chadha Questions ‘Shifted’ Status in Punjab Voter Roll

Chadha said he continues to serve as a Rajya Sabha MP from Punjab and questioned why officials placed his name under the “shifted” category. He alleged that the move reflected the AAP government’s political hostility towards him. Chadha had earlier been associated with AAP before joining the BJP. He said the change in the electoral roll raised serious questions about the ongoing revision process.

AAP rejected Chadha’s allegations and said the Punjab government has no role in the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls. The party pointed out that the Election Commission of India (ECI) conducts the revision process. AAP also made a counter-allegation against Chadha. It claimed that he was trying to register as a voter in Delhi through a “backdated process.”

AAP Denies Role in SIR, Makes Backdated Registration Claim

According to AAP, information from Election Commission sources suggested that Chadha was attempting to register his name in Rajinder Nagar, Delhi. The party used this claim to challenge Chadha’s allegations of political vendetta. The dispute has added another layer to the political tension between Chadha and his former party. Both sides have exchanged allegations over his voter registration status.

Chadha, along with six other Rajya Sabha MPs, had earlier left AAP and joined the BJP. Chadha said AAP had moved away from its principles, while the party accused him of changing sides for political convenience. The controversy comes ahead of the Punjab Assembly elections, which are expected in early 2027. The electoral roll revision has therefore become a politically sensitive issue in the state.
