Om Birla submitted his nomination for the position of Speaker

Om Birla submitted his nomination on Tuesday for the position of Speaker of the 18th Lok Sabha as the NDA consensus candidate, a role he held in the previous House. Earlier in the day, Birla met with Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

JD(U) leader and Union Minister Rajiv Ranjan Singh, also known as Lalan Singh, informed reporters that Birla’s name was unanimously chosen by all NDA parties. Additionally, senior BJP leader Rajnath Singh reached out to the opposition to garner their support.

The opposition demanded an immediate decision on the post of Deputy Speaker, despite Rajnath Singh’s request that everyone should sit together and discuss the issue when the time comes for the selection, Singh said, as quoted by PTI.
