Narendra Modi and Mamata Banerjee intensified their political confrontation over the alleged protocol violation during Droupadi Murmu’s recent visit to West Bengal. The dispute continued for the second day as leaders from the Bharatiya Janata Party and All India Trinamool Congress traded accusations. Both sides used public platforms to defend their positions and criticise each other. The issue quickly turned into a major political flashpoint.
Speaking at an event in New Delhi, Prime Minister Narendra Modi criticised the state government for allegedly mishandling the President’s programme. He said the incident showed disrespect toward a tribal President and the Constitution. The Prime Minister accused the ruling party in the state of engaging in divisive politics. He also claimed that people would not forget what he described as arrogance in power.

From her protest site at Esplanade, Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee strongly rejected the allegations. She accused the Prime Minister of politicising the issue ahead of elections. Banerjee displayed a photograph to question the Prime Minister’s own adherence to protocol during an earlier event. She insisted that her government respects the President and every constitutional office.
The Chief Minister clarified that a private organisation had arranged the President’s programme, not the state government. She said the administration had already informed authorities that the organisers might not have adequate capacity for such a high-level event. Banerjee also said the organisers should answer questions about low attendance at the venue. According to her, responsibility for the event’s management lies with those who conducted it.
Addressing reports about inadequate facilities, Banerjee said the concerned area falls under the authority of the Airports Authority of India. She argued that the state government cannot control issues in areas managed by central agencies. Meanwhile, senior BJP leader Ravi Shankar Prasad criticised the West Bengal government and accused it of disrespecting the President. The political dispute continues to fuel tensions between the BJP and the Trinamool Congress.
