Union Home Minister Amit Shah, who postponed his election rallies for BJP MLA in Maharashtra to assess the security situation in Manipur yesterday, is likely to hold another series of in-depth discussions with senior officials from the Ministry of Home Affairs today.
Mobs Attack MLA Residences
Widespread violence broke out in parts of the Imphal Valley districts on Saturday, with mobs targeting the homes of several MLAs and vandalizing property in response to the discovery of the bodies of women and children.
Yesterday, Amit Shah assessed the security situation in Manipur and instructed Ministry of Home Affairs officials to take every necessary measure to restore peace in the Northeastern state.
The Ministry of Home Affairs stated that security forces have been instruct to take appropriate actions to restore peace and stability in Manipur, where the security situation has remained tense in recent days.
The ministry further noted that armed individuals from both conflicting communities have been engaging in violent activities, resulting in loss of life and a breakdown of public order for MLA.
The ministry emphasize in a statement that strict measures would be enforce against anyone involve in violent or disruptive actions.
BJP MLAs are schedule to meet with Chief Minister N. Biren Singh at his residence today at 6 PM to review the situation in Manipur. According to officials familiar with the matter.
This follows the withdrawal of support by the Conrad Sangma-led National People’s Party (NPP). From the BJP-led Manipur government under N. Biren Singh.
The Meghalaya Chief Minister criticized his Manipur counterpart for his inability to control the ongoing violence between the Meitei and Kuki-Zo communities. Which has caused months of turmoil and significantly disrupted daily life in the state.

Amid the violent protests. A total curfew was enforce in Imphal West and Imphal East towns. And internet services were suspende in certain areas of the state.
State officials announced that, through new orders. Internet restrictions have been impose in the Jiribam and Pherzawl districts of Manipur for the next two days.
The Manipur Police state. “A total curfew has been impose in the town with immediate effect until further notice. Internet and mobile data services have been suspende for the next two days. SSPs and COs have been deploye on the ground to oversee and manage the law-and-order situation.”
Since May of last year. Inter-communal clashes over government grants and job and education quotas in Manipur have resulted in the deaths of at least 250 people and displaced 60,000 individuals.
