Mamata Banerjee PM Must Control Amit Shah Over Bengal Violence

West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee accused Union Home Minister Amit Shah and the Border Security Force (BSF) of orchestrating the violence over the Waqf law in the state. During a meeting with Muslim clerics in Kolkata, Mamata claimed that the violence had been premeditated and suggested a conspiracy involving Bangladeshi miscreants entering to incite unrest. She urged Prime Minister Narendra Modi to rein in Amit Shah, alleging that the Home Minister used government agencies to plot against her.

Violence in Bengal 3 Dead, Bangladeshi Involvement Suspected

The violence that broke out in Murshidabad and South 24 Parganas districts killed three people, including a father-son duo who a mob hacked to death in Samsherganj. Mamata’s government announced financial compensation for the families of the victims. Initial investigations indicated the involvement of Bangladeshi miscreants, particularly since the districts affected are close to the Bangladesh border. Mamata questioned the BSF’s failure to prevent such violence, given their responsibility for securing the 2,200 km-long border.

Mamata Criticizes BJP’s Polarization Tactics, Urges Peaceful Protests

Mamata also slammed the BJP for its “divide and rule” policy and warned against the party’s attempts to create polarization. She urged Muslim clerics to lead peaceful protests and avoid BJP’s attempts to incite them. Mamata rejected the opposition’s claims that her party, the Trinamool Congress, had any involvement in the violence, stating that if they had, BJP would not have attacked their leaders’ homes.

BJP Observes Hindu Shaheed Diwas, Criticizes Mamata Over Geographical Mistake

Meanwhile, the BJP observed Hindu Shaheed Diwas to honor those killed in the violence. BJP leader Sukanta Majumdar mocked Mamata for mistakenly claiming that West Bengal shares a border with Sri Lanka. Majumdar criticized Mamata’s leadership and governance, questioning her competence and ability to manage the state, especially in light of her geographical error.
