Maharashtra elections are announced, and Mahayuti may finalize its seat-sharing deal today with Amit Shah

On Wednesday afternoon, all three Mahayuti leaders—NCP’s Ajit Pawar. Shiv Sena’s Eknath Shinde, and BJP’s Devendra Fadnavis—will meet with Union Home Minister Amit Shah in Delhi. This meeting comes a day after the Election Commission declared that the Maharashtra elections. Will take place in a single phase on November 20.

Seat-Sharing Arrangements Ahead of Assembly Polls in maharashtra

The trio is expected to discuss and finalize seat-sharing arrangements with Shah. Ahead of the assembly polls, with results set to be announced on November 23. Meanwhile Mumbai Congress General Secretary Javed Shroff joined the NCP in the presence of Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister. Ajit Pawar and state NCP chief Sunil Tatkare.

The election campaign has begun in Maharashtra. Where the ruling Mahayuti faces a direct challenge from the Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA). The BJP, alongside allies Shiv Sena, led by Chief Minister Eknath Shinde, and the NCP. Headed by Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar, aims to maintain its control over the 288-member Maharashtra assembly.

The BJP-led Mahayuti alliance is up against the Maha Vikas Aghadi coalition. Which includes Congress, NCP (SP), and Shiv Sena (UBT), aiming to replicate its success from the Lok Sabha elections. In that election, the opposition MVA alliance secured 31 out of 48 seats in Maharashtra.

NCP-SP chief Sharad Pawar, seen as the architect of the MVA coalition in Maharashtra, stated that he will not stop until he sets Maharashtra on the “right track,” regardless of his age.

On Tuesday, Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister and BJP leader Devendra Fadnavis stated that the state is looking for a “strong mandate” for the Mahayuti alliance in next month’s assembly elections to support its development.

The 2024 Maharashtra Lok Sabha results indicated that the BJP was leading in 83 assembly segments, a decrease from its current 103 seats. Eknath Shinde’s Shiv Sena was ahead in 38 seats, while Ajit Pawar’s NCP was leading in 6 constituencies. Additionally, BJP ally Rashtriya Samaj Paksha was leading in 1 seat.

Overall, the Mahayuti alliance led in 128 seats, a significant decline from its current strength of 203.

In contrast, the MVA was leading in 151 assembly seats, with Congress in the lead on the most seats at 63. Uddhav Thackeray’s Shiv Sena was ahead in 56 seats, while Sharad Pawar’s NCP led in 32.
