Senior ministers of the Karnataka government gathered at Chief Minister Siddaramaiah’s official residence in Bengaluru on Thursday amid growing speculation about a possible leadership transition. The meeting took place after several rounds of discussions between Congress leaders in New Delhi. Political observers closely watched the developments as reports suggested the party was considering a change in leadership. The gathering added momentum to ongoing discussions within the state unit.
The closed-door meeting was held at Cauvery, the chief minister’s official residence, where several senior ministers arrived for discussions. Among those present were key cabinet members who held consultations on the evolving political situation. Security arrangements around the residence were strengthened as more leaders reached the venue. Party leaders avoided making public comments while the meeting was underway.

Reports indicated that Deputy Chief Minister D. K. Shivakumar was also expected to participate in the discussions. Sources familiar with the matter suggested that the chief minister could make an important announcement after the meeting. Speculation also increased after Siddaramaiah reportedly sought time to meet Governor Thaawarchand Gehlot. These developments intensified political discussions across the state.
The uncertainty surrounding any immediate decision continued because the governor was away from Bengaluru. Officials stated that Gehlot had travelled to Indore due to a family emergency and had not confirmed his return schedule. As a result, any formal constitutional process linked to a leadership change remained unclear. Party leaders continued internal consultations while awaiting further developments.
The latest developments followed extensive meetings involving Siddaramaiah, Shivakumar and senior Congress leadership in the national capital. Congress leaders reportedly reviewed political and organisational factors ahead of upcoming electoral challenges. At the centre of the discussions remained Shivakumar’s long-standing aspiration to lead the state government. His supporters maintained that a leadership-sharing understanding had been reached after the 2023 Assembly elections, keeping the transition debate alive within the party.
