INDIA bloc in Bihar has finalised a seat-sharing agreement

The INDIA bloc, also known as Mahagathbandhan, has finalized the seat-sharing arrangement in Bihar for the upcoming 2024 Lok Sabha elections. The largest member of the Mahagathbandhan, the RJD, will be contesting from 26 seats, including Purnea and Hajipur. The Congress party will field candidates on nine seats, including Kishanganj and Patna Sahib, while the Left parties will be contesting on five seats.

Purnea and Katihar, both seats currently under the control of the Janata Dal (United), posed a challenge during the negotiations for seat allocation between the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) and the Congress in Bihar, where there are a total of 40 Lok Sabha seats.

Congress Concedes Purnea Lok Sabha Seat in Bihar

According to the announcement, the Congress has conceded the Purnea Lok Sabha seat, which Pappu Yadav, the spouse of Rajya Sabha MP Ranjeet Ranjan, who recently joined the party, had hoped to contest. Yadav claimed to have received assurance of a Congress ticket from Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi.

The seat will now be contested by the RJD, which has recently awarded the party ticket to Bima Bharti, a former JD(U) member who switched sides. However, the formal announcement of this decision is pending.

The Mahagathbandhan’s declaration of seat-sharing comes just after the conclusion of the filing of nomination papers for the initial phase of Lok Sabha polls.
