Union minister and BJP Lok Sabha candidate from Nagpur, Nitin Gadkari, unveiled his own “manifesto” on Tuesday, vowing to rank the Maharashtra urban constituency among the top five cities in terms of growth and cleanliness and to create one lakh jobs in the next five years if re-elected.

In his “Vachannama,” or electoral manifesto, Mr. Gadkari outlines his plans for Nagpur over the next five years should he be elect from Vidarbha city, where elections for a third term are schedule to begin on April 19.

Gadkari Vows to Transform Nagpur into Model City and Promises 5-star Status
In his third term, Mr. Gadkari stressed that he would like to see Nagpur’s sundar and swachh” (beautiful and clean) and rank among the top five cities in the nation for development, sanitation, and hygiene. The previous president of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) declared that he would assist in granting ownership rights to residents of unauthorized slums upon regularization and assist them in building new homes with the support of state and federal governments.

Accelerates Slum Development and Initiates Ownership Rights for Hundreds
The Union minister announced that he had already begun construction in one of the city’s impoverished regions and granted ownership rights for 500–600 homes. In addition to helping to lessen traffic congestion, he pointed out that contemporary markets for hawkers, farmers, grain wholesalers, and oil merchants will open in designated areas of the city.

Plans Include Job Creation, Water Security, and Orange Sapling Initiative
Mr. Gadkari stated that constructing truck terminals, metro gauge roads, new four-lane railway tracks, and logistics parks in Nagpur, among other measures, will be among his top priorities. The Union Minister promised that one lakh new jobs would be produced in Nagpur and five lakh in the Vidarbha area by 2029.

He promised that there wouldn’t be a water shortage in Maharashtra’s second capital until 2070. According to Mr. Gadkari, 25 lakh orange saplings—which are prize for their excellent fruit—will be plant in homes throughout the city.
BJP stalwart contends with Congress opponent Vikas Thakre
The Union minister won his first Lok Sabha election from Nagpur in 2014, defeating Vilas Muttemwar, a seven-time Congress MP from the city, by 2,84,000 votes. In 2019, Mr. Gadkari held his seat by defeating Congress rival Nana Patole by a margin of 2,16,000 votes. The senior BJP lawmaker, who is running for a third term in the Lower House of Parliament, will now face Congress contender Vikas Thakre.
