After five decades at the white Type VII bungalow on Akbar Road in Lutyens’ Delhi, the Congress party relocated its operations to a new site on Wednesday.
Interestingly, the new Congress headquarters, Indira Bhawan, is just under a kilometer away from the BJP’s national headquarters on Deen Dayal Upadhyay Marg in New Delhi. both are located on the same road, the Congress office’s address is Kotla Marg, not Deen Dayal Upadhyay Marg.

Congress Shifts HQ to Kotla Road
The Congress chose not to associate its address with Deen Dayal Upadhyay, a Hindutva ideologue and RSS pracharak revered by the BJP, and instead made the backdoor the main entrance to its new building. The party will use the entrance on Kotla Road, which runs parallel to Deen Dayal Upadhyay Marg, giving the new headquarters, Indira Bhawan, the address 9 A, Kotla Marg. The Aam Aadmi Party, located next door to the Congress, has its headquarters at 206, Deen Dayal Upadhyay Marg.
The inauguration of Indira Bhawan on Wednesday marked a significant moment for the Congress, as it had been using the previous address since the 1970s. President Mallikarjun Kharge, Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi, and Rajya Sabha MP Sonia Gandhi attended the unveiling of the new headquarters.

Indira Bhawan: A Strategic Move Near BJP HQ
People who follow Vastu Shastra often make significant changes to their homes and offices. However, by choosing Kotla Marg over Deen Dayal Upadhyay Marg, the Congress is deliberately distancing itself from a leader who is a key ideological figure for its main political rival, the BJP.
The new Congress office address is Indira Bhawan on Deen Dayal Upadhyay Marg, where the BJP already has its prominent headquarters, says political commentator and author Rasheed Kidwai in an interview with India Today Digital. Kidwai, who has written several books on the Congress, including 24 Akbar Road: A Short History Of The People Behind The Fall And The Rise Of The Congress, shared his insights

According to Kidwai’s 2022 article in India Today, the new Congress headquarters, designed under the guidance of Ahmed Patel and Motilal Vora, saw them leverage their behind-the-scenes influence to make the Kotla Road entrance the main gate.
The Congress, cautious about having an office on a road named after RSS ideologue Pandit Deen Dayal Upadhyay, apparently plans to use its back door as the main entrance on Kotla Marg, Kidwai tells India Today Digital.
Kotla Marg derives its name from the iconic 14th-century fort, Firoz Shah Kotla, built by Delhi Sultan Firoz Shah Tughlaq.
