The Congress on Tuesday criticised the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) over the appointment of Nitin Nabin as its new national president, alleging that the ruling party bypassed a genuine electoral process while continuing to describe the exercise as an election. Reacting to the announcement at a press conference in New Delhi, Congress media and publicity department chairperson Pawan Khera questioned the credibility of the procedure followed by the BJP.

Mr. Khera asked why the BJP referred to the process as an election when the party announced the president in advance and conducted no visible voting thereafter. He argued that declaring a leader first and promising an election later undermined the very idea of internal democracy. According to him, the BJP only used the term “election” for formality, without following any transparent or competitive process.
