Ajit Pawar’s party faced a significant setback on Tuesday when four of its prominent leaders from Pimpri-Chinchwad resigned and announced their intention to join the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) led by veteran leader Sharad Pawar. These leaders include Ajit Gavahane, the president of the Pimpri-Chinchwad unit, Yash Sane, a student leader, and two former corporators, Rahul Bhosale and Pankaj Bhalekar.
The departure of these leaders comes on the heels of a poor performance in the Lok Sabha elections in Maharashtra, where the Ajit Pawar-led NCP struggled to make a significant impact. The party contested four Lok Sabha seats in the state but managed to win only one, Raigad, while Sharad Pawar’s faction secured eight seats in Maharashtra. This has added to the political challenges faced by Ajit Pawar’s faction, further exacerbated by the recent resignations.

Internal Strife and Strategic Recalibration in Ajit Pawar’s
Ajit Gavahane, speaking to news agency ANI, explained the reasons behind their resignation. He mentioned, “I resigned yesterday and today we will have a meeting with all ex-corporators of another Vidhan Sabha constituency. He also alleged that since 2017, the BJP’s management of the Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC). Has led to a stall in developmental activities, contributing to their decision to leave the party.

These resignations also coincide with speculation that some leaders within the Ajit Pawar camp. Are considering returning to Sharad Pawar’s faction ahead of the Maharashtra assembly polls. This speculation gains weight from Sharad Pawar’s earlier statement in June. Where he mentioned that while the doors were closed to those who sought to weaken his party. Leaders who could strengthen the organization without tarnishing its image would be welcomed back.
NCP Faction Amidst Upcoming Maharashtra Assembly Polls
The political landscape in Maharashtra is thus experiencing significant shifts, with the Ajit Pawar-led NCP facing internal strife and challenges. The criticism from the RSS-linked magazine Organiser, which blamed the Maharashtra BJP’s poor performance on its alliance with Ajit Pawar’s NCP. And the lack of communication between the party, its workers, and the NDA government in the state, has added another layer of complexity to the situation.
As the assembly polls in Maharashtra approach later this year, the developments within the NCP factions and their alliances will play a crucial role in shaping the political outcomes. The departure of key leaders and the potential realignment within the party indicate a period of transformation and strategic recalibration for Ajit Pawar’s faction, aiming to address the political and electoral challenges ahead.
