Alliance Talks have taken centre stage after the 2026 Tamil Nadu Assembly election results. The Indian National Congress has officially announced its support to Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK), led by Vijay, for forming the next government. The Congress said it took this decision after Vijay formally requested support. The party added that the alliance is based on mutual respect and a fair share in the state government. It also made it clear that its support depends on TVK keeping out any forces that do not believe in the Constitution.

TVK emerged as the single largest party by winning 108 seats. This result has made its role crucial in government formation. With Congress backing, the alliance has moved closer to forming a stable government. Leaders from both sides have begun discussions to finalise power-sharing arrangements and key positions. These talks will shape the structure of the new government in the coming days.
Alliance Talks Continue Amid Political Tensions
At the same time, tensions have risen in West Bengal after reports of post-poll violence. The Election Commission of India has ordered immediate action against those involved. Officials reported incidents of violence, including the killing of two people and damage to several party offices. In some areas, miscreants set a Trinamool Congress office on fire. Authorities also used bulldozers to remove structures in Kolkata’s New Market area. A statue of Lenin was vandalised in Murshidabad, which further increased tensions. TMC leaders have accused Bharatiya Janata Party workers of carrying out targeted attacks.
Meanwhile, political developments have also taken place in Assam. Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has resigned along with his cabinet. This move clears the way for the formation of a new government led by the BJP. Officials have indicated that the oath-taking ceremony will likely take place after May 11, 2026. These developments highlight a period of rapid political change across multiple states.
