Kingdom of Dreams, once a cultural icon and a hub for live theater in Gurugram, was sealed in July 2022 due to unpaid dues of ₹107 crore. Early Thursday morning, a massive fire broke out, ravaging parts of the Kingdom of Dreams before firefighters could arrive.Fortunately, no casualties occurred because the Kingdom of Dreams closed nearly three years ago. The fire department received a call at 6:50 am, but by the time they arrived, the fire had already destroyed much of the structure. Thick black smoke filled the city’s skyline as over 10 fire trucks fought the blaze, taking three hours to bring it under control.

Second Fire at Kingdom of Dreams Raises Safety Concerns, Investigation Underway

Gulshan Kalra, deputy director (technical) of Haryana Fire and Emergency Services, stated that six fire vehicles from Sector 29 and additional teams from nearby areas were deployed. The exact cause of the fire is still unknown, but investigations are underway. This is the second fire incident in less than a year, with a similar blaze in the basement in July 2023, raising concerns about the building’s safety.

Kingdom of Dreams Closed Due to Financial Troubles and Legal Issues

The Kingdom of Dreams, once a major entertainment venue, closed due to mounting debts, including a ₹36 lakh monthly rent and arrears accumulated over the years. Financial difficulties, especially after the COVID-19 pandemic, triggered its closure and worsened its instability. The property has also faced legal troubles, including a bounced ₹3.92 crore cheque.

Kingdom of Dreams Once a Thriving Cultural Hub, Now Vulnerable to Damage

Spread across six acres, the Kingdom of Dreams was a premier destination for live performances, cultural events, and dining experiences representing 16 Indian states. Before its closure, it attracted nearly 700,000 visitors annually. Now, as an abandoned site, the venue is vulnerable to further damage. Authorities have promised an investigation into the cause of the fire and measures to prevent future incidents.
