UGC Announces New Guidelines for Enrolling in ODL and Online Courses

UGC has introduced a new system for transparent admissions, allowing students to register for ODL and online programs via web portal.

UGC Ensuring Transparency in Enrollment

The University Grants Commission has announced a new admission process for Open and Distance Learning (ODL) and Online programmes for the 2024-25 academic session. This update aims to ensure transparency and restrict enrollment to approved institutions only. The issued notification to monitor institutions admitting students into unrecognized ODL and online programmes. The new standardized admission procedure aims to protect students’ academic and career prospects.

Regulations and Recognition List for ODL and Online Programmes

The Open and Distance Learning (ODL) and Online Programmes Regulations, 2020 set minimum standards for these programmes. The Distance Education Bureau website lists recognized universities at https://deb.ugc.ac.in/. For the October 2024 academic session, a new transparent admission process has been introduced. Students can register on the web portal (https://deb.ugc.ac.in/ and https://deb.ugc.ac.in/StudentDebld) using their Academic Bank of Credit (ABC)-ID to generate a unique DEB-ID.

DEB-ID Requirement for ODL and Online Programmes from October 2024

“All stakeholders are hereby informed that the creation of DEB-ID shall be required for every student (except foreign learners) willing to enroll in ODL/ Online prograrnmes in recognized/entitled HEIs from academic year 2024-25, academic session beginning October, 2024 (revised from July-August, 2024) and onwards.

The UGC has requested the higher educational institutions to implement the new mechanism for ODL and Online mode admission process
