Prime Minister Narendra Modi told students that gaming can become a powerful tool for self-development when they pursue it with focus, balance and ethical values. During his interaction with school students at the annual Pariksha Pe Charcha programme, he said gaming is not just a pastime but a skill that builds speed, thinking ability and creativity. He urged students to develop expertise in high-quality gaming while ensuring that studies remain a priority.
Modi explained that students should approach gaming with discipline and purpose rather than treating it as time-pass. He encouraged them to identify their strengths and focus on building skills in meaningful and well-designed games. According to him, when students balance academics with responsible gaming, the activity can contribute positively to their overall personality development.
At the same time, the prime minister warned students against online betting and gambling-based games. He made it clear that such practices harm young minds and society. Modi said the government has enacted laws to prevent betting and stressed that cheap internet should not lead to the misuse of time or exposure to harmful gaming platforms.

Families back success over time
Responding to a student who spoke about societal pressure to focus only on studies, Modi said parents often hesitate when children choose unconventional paths. However, he added that once students achieve success and recognition, families feel proud and begin to support their choices. He advised students not to feel discouraged by initial resistance and to stay committed to their goals.
Modi encouraged students interested in gaming to channel their creativity by developing original games rooted in Indian culture. He specifically suggested using mythological and traditional stories such as the Panchatantra as inspiration. He said creating culturally rich games can help students gain recognition while also promoting India’s heritage.
The prime minister further advised students to launch their own games and share them on social media platforms. He said that as young creators gain followers and appreciation, families would naturally start valuing their work and even contribute ideas. Modi cited examples like games based on Lord Hanuman’s stories or Abhimanyu’s escape from the chakravyuh, highlighting that India offers endless storytelling opportunities for aspiring game developers.
