Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan announced major reforms for the NEET examination system this week. He said the government plans to conduct NEET as a computer-based examination from next year onward. The decision follows concerns raised after last year’s paper leak controversy affected several examination centres nationwide. Pradhan stated authorities are strengthening examination security measures to prevent malpractice and restore public confidence completely. He urged students, parents, and teachers to begin preparing for the possible digital examination transition immediately. The minister also assured candidates that authorities would introduce reforms carefully to avoid difficulties during implementation.

NEET Likely to Become Computer-Based From Next Year
During an interview with India Today TV, Pradhan strongly criticised Congress leader Rahul Gandhi over NEET controversies. He accused Rahul Gandhi of spreading fear among students and creating confusion for political advantages nationwide. Pradhan claimed Gandhi repeatedly questioned examination systems without trusting the country’s educational institutions and youth communities. He further alleged Gandhi waited for mistakes during NEET examinations to launch political attacks against government authorities. The minister demanded Rahul Gandhi apologise publicly after raising concerns regarding a Nagpur student’s examination centre allotment. According to Pradhan, authorities already resolved the issue and offered alternative arrangements for the concerned student.
Pradhan also addressed ongoing protests at Jantar Mantar regarding paper leaks and examination irregularities across the country. He questioned the motives of several protest groups and criticised organisations participating in demonstrations against educational authorities. The minister claimed certain groups were attempting to create panic and instability among students preparing for competitive examinations. Referring to demonstrators, he alleged anti-national elements were participating actively in protests organised at Jantar Mantar recently. Pradhan maintained the Constitution allows democratic protests, but citizens can judge intentions behind every public movement independently. He insisted most students remained focused on examinations instead of becoming influenced by political statements and protests.

Government Promises Crackdown on Paper Mafia
Speaking about examination security, Pradhan promised stronger action against organised cheating networks and the so-called paper mafia nationwide. He acknowledged that preventing every paper leak completely remains challenging despite continuous reforms and strict monitoring systems. However, the minister assured students authorities would take legal action against individuals responsible for examination-related criminal activities. He explained examination integrity requires cooperation between governments, institutions, teachers, parents, and society to maintain transparency effectively. According to Pradhan, authorities are developing stricter systems to reduce opportunities for malpractice during large-scale national examinations completely. He added that digital examinations may help minimise paper leak risks while improving efficiency and monitoring capabilities significantly.
The minister also credited Prime Minister Narendra Modi for closely monitoring developments related to the NEET examination controversy recently. Pradhan rejected allegations suggesting the Prime Minister intervened only after criticism surrounding paper leak incidents increased nationwide. He stated Modi consistently remains concerned about issues affecting students, educational institutions, and the country’s future development goals. Pradhan praised students, teachers, district administrations, and government agencies for conducting this year’s examinations smoothly across India successfully. He concluded by saying the government remains committed to improving examination systems through technological reforms and stronger safeguards. The proposed computer-based NEET examination could become one of India’s biggest educational reforms in coming years.
