Protesting Students Pick 11-Member Team for Talks with State Government

The students’ protest in Ranchi entered its thirteenth day as demonstrators vowed to continue their agitation until the government accepted their demands.

Hundreds of students gathered at Jaipal Singh Munda Stadium and demanded a Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) inquiry into alleged irregularities in government recruitment examinations. They raised concerns over the Jharkhand Public Service Commission (JPSC) Combined Civil Services Examination and the Jharkhand Staff Selection Commission Combined Graduate Level (JSSC-CGL) examination. The JPSC-JSSC Reform Manch nominated an 11-member delegation to represent the protesters during talks with the government’s four-member ministerial committee.

Students Insist on CBI Probe Ahead of Talks

However, officials had not informed the Manch about the meeting’s venue or timing before this report was filed. The delegation included eight student representatives, one journalist, one guardian, and one legal expert. The Reform Manch clarified that the journalist and legal expert would serve only as mentors during the discussions. Student representatives alone would present facts, demands, and concerns before the government. Organisers also directed journalists not to carry microphones, cameras, recording devices, or sound systems into the meeting.

Student leader Ravindra Paswan said the delegation was prepared for meaningful discussions and expected the government to address students’ concerns sincerely. He expressed hope that the government would take decisions that protected the interests of deserving candidates. Meanwhile, the Jharkhand Crime Investigation Department (CID) continued investigating the alleged examination irregularities and arrested 19 people in connection with the case. The protesting students reiterated their demand for a CBI investigation into the recruitment examination controversy. They also sought cancellation of the preliminary examination for the 14th JPSC Civil Services Examination and a review of examinations conducted through agencies, including TSR Data Processing Private Limited. Earlier, AICC Jharkhand in-charge K. Raju supported the students through a post on X and appreciated the Chief Minister for forming a ministerial committee to consult protesters. He said ensuring justice for students remained the Congress party’s highest priority in Jharkhand.
