The JEE (Main) 2026 Session 1 examination continued on January 23, with candidates appearing for the morning shift across centres nationwide. Based on student feedback and expert reviews, the overall difficulty level of the paper ranged from easy to moderate.
Students and experts agreed that the question paper maintained a balanced structure and covered a wide range of topics from the prescribed syllabus. Well-prepared candidates did not encounter any major surprises, as the paper followed expected patterns.
Section-Wise Difficulty Analysis: Maths Toughest, Physics Moderate
Among the three subjects, Mathematics emerged as the most challenging section. Many students found the questions lengthy and time-consuming, which increased the overall difficulty of this section despite balanced topic coverage.
Experts assessed the Physics section as moderate in difficulty. The paper included questions from most major chapters, with Magnetism carrying higher weightage, while Optics featured fewer questions. Mechanics received average representation.

Physics also included questions from topics such as Electromagnetic Waves, Thermodynamics, and Modern Physics. Some problems required additional calculation time, making the section moderately challenging for candidates.
Chemistry Section Rated Easier with Strong Focus on Organic Chemistry
The Chemistry section proved comparatively easier than Physics and Mathematics. It featured a fairly even distribution across Organic, Inorganic, and Physical Chemistry, with slightly higher emphasis on Organic Chemistry.
Most Chemistry questions aligned closely with NCERT content and followed a statement-based format. While the section did not pose major difficulty, students needed strong conceptual understanding and careful reading to avoid errors.
Commenting on the overall paper, Ajay Sharma, National Academic Director (Engineering) at Aakash Educational Services Limited, stated that although all three subjects carried similar difficulty levels, Mathematics stood out as the toughest. He added that the paper remained well-balanced in terms of chapter coverage and syllabus distribution.
