The Supreme Court has issued a notice and requested responses from the Centre and the National Testing Agency (NTA) regarding the alleged paper leaks and malpractices in the NEET-UG 2024 exam. During the hearing, the bench, which included Justice Vikram Nath and SVN Bhatti, emphasized that even the slightest negligence, such as 0.001%, should be thoroughly addressed. The bench highlighted the potential dangers of allowing someone who has committed fraud to become a doctor, stating that such individuals pose a significant threat to society.
Supreme Court Urges Fairness in Addressing NEET-UG 2024 Exam Issues
The Supreme Court stressed the importance of considering the efforts of aspirants who have diligently prepared for the entrance examination. The bench advised the Centre and the NTA to view the petitions against NEET-UG not as adversarial litigation but as an opportunity to correct mistakes. The court urged the NTA to act fairly and acknowledge any errors, as this would inspire confidence in their performance. The Supreme Court expects timely action from the testing agency to address these issues.
Last week, the Supreme Court admonished a counsel for the petitioners who claimed that NEET-UG 2024 exam controversies were causing students in Kota, Rajasthan, to die by suicide. The court dismissed these statements and instructed the petitioners to seek a CBI probe into the alleged exam irregularities to avoid making emotional arguments. Additionally, the Supreme Court reiterated that it would not halt the NEET counselling process.
